The Giants kicked off their playoff season on Tuesday, May 17 with a 12-2 victory over the Drake Pirates after only six innings due to the mercy rule.

After senior Jenny Resnick drove in two runs with a single in the bottom of the sixth, the Giants established a 10 run lead and the game was automatically ended.

The Giants were bolstered by a strong offensive showing from their seniors. Four year varsity senior Shawn McCullough went four for four in the game, hitting two singles, a double, and a two-run homerun in the fourth. One inning later, Resnick also launched a one-run homerun over the fence.

McCullough is currently leading the MCAL league in homeruns and  RBIs, and is ranked third for her .512 batting average.

The Giants’ starting pitcher, sophomore Catherine Jensen, secured her tenth win of the season, striking out three and allowing three hits during her six-inning outing.

Sophomore Grace Marshall was named player of the game threw after she threw a runner out at the plate from right field, scored a pair of runs, and went two for two with one RBI.

On Friday, May 20th, Redwood will face San Marin in the semifinals, the third matchup against the Mustangs this season. Redwood and San Marin are currently ranked 3rd and 2nd in the league, respectively.

Redwood’s victory over San Marin early in the regular season was countered by a 4-1 loss last week.

“We lost to San Marin last time and we’re excited to get back and get some revenge,” Resnick said.
