Redwood varsity baseball defeats Marin Catholic to take first place in the MCAL ranking

The Redwood varsity baseball team overtook Marin Catholic to move into first place in MCALs in a  4-1 rout this past Friday.

Marin Catholic came out with fire under their belts in the top of the first inning, scoring one run off the bat. Redwood then came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first after junior Henry Zeisler hit a double and senior Erik Doctor hit a single that sent Zeisler home.

Redwood and Marin Catholic battled to take the lead until the bottom of the third inning until junior Nicolas Belgum and Zeisler hit consecutive singles to get on base and both scored following an error made by the MC catcher. After Doctor reached first by a walk, senior Zach Cohen hit a single to send Doctor home, securing Redwood a 4-1 lead that they would keep through the rest of the game.

Standout performances were delivered by senior Zack Kopstein, who has now pitched in both wins against Marin Catholic, and by junior Trevor Foehr, who in one of his first starts of the season caught an MC player trying to steal second base. The Giants currently need one more win to clinch MCALs.

The Giants play their next game today at San Marin at 4:30 p.m.
