Senior Zach Cohen pitches a ball during the Giants’ loss to San Marin on Friday.

After entering their game with an undefeated record of 7-0, the Giants endured their first loss against San Marin by one run on Friday.

San Marin started off the game by scoring two runs, after which Redwood answered with a run of its own to bring the score to 2-1 in the second inning following a double by junior Aubrey Sine, who later scored on a passed ball.

Redwood tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third when senior Zack Kopstein hit a single and junior Nicolas Belgum reached on an error to score Kopstein.

The score stayed tied for a few innings until San Marin scored a run in the top of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead.

Despite strong efforts from Redwood to tie the game, the Giants fell short and lost the game by one run.

“We didn’t get any of our bunts down, we made mental mistakes on the bases, and in the end we honestly just gave them the game,” senior Parker Laret said.

The Giants play their next game at home against Justin-Siena on Tuesday.
