JV girls’ soccer shuts out Marin Catholic

The JV girls’ soccer team overpowered Marin Catholic in a 3-0 victory on Saturday.

Sophomore co-captain Annie Shelton was assisted by sophomores Elizabeth Ratcliffe and Carolyn French on an early goal, giving the Giants momentum that carried them throughout the remainder of the match.

According to Ratcliffe, also a co-captain, the way Shelton and herself show their leadership is by taking initiative, organizing warm ups, and making sure that everyone is feeling comfortable and having fun.

Before the first half came to an end, the Giants were able to add to their lead with another goal. Freshman Amanda Morse assisted freshman Hannah Reidy to extend the lead to 2-0.

A second half goal from freshman Georgia Bennett, assisted by Ratcliffe on a well-placed through ball, put the Giants up one more goal. The remainder of the half was comparatively uneventful, with the final score remaining 3-0.

The Giants’ offensive force has been formidable this year, and according to Shelton, having more attacking mids than holding mids as well as more strikers than usual is beneficial for the team in circumstances like today.

The Giants look to remain undefeated on their home turf on Wednesday, Jan. 13 against Novato.
