On Tuesday, Sept. 30, the boys’ junior varsity water polo team lost 10-9 to number one MCAL seeded Drake in overtime.
The teams were neck-and-neck throughout the first half. The first quarter ended with a score of 3-3, while the second quarter ended with a score of 4-4.
The score remained tied at 5-5 for many minutes into the third quarter until sophomores Elliot King and Skyler Cox each scored a goal. The quarter ended 8-7, but the game became tied again in the middle of the fourth quarter.
Cox, a wing player, caused an uproar from the crowd with a goal to take the lead within 30 seconds of the end of the game. Fifteen seconds later, the game was once again tied and overtime started.
Two minutes into overtime, Drake scored to end the game 10-9.
The loss puts the Giants at a 4-3 record with seven games left in the regular season.
The Giants next play at Fairfield High School on Friday, Oct. 3.
